Tue. July 8th: Rag Poets + Supports
Wellington band Rag Poets features Carl Evensen - vocals and percussion (Fourmyula), Vocalist on those early Kiwi radio hits such as ‘Nature’ and ‘Turn Back the Wind’, Rob Clarkson - drums, Alan Norman - accordion and 12 string guitar, who along with Rob played for many years with NZ’s seminal Country band The Warratahs, and Gary Creary guitar. Gary hails from Toronto and has extensive live and session experience including a stint in the fabled Hawks Nest Band. George Barris, on bass, was a member of The Underdogs, Jigsaw, Highway, Blerta, and he also plays with Laura Collins and the Back Porch Blues Band.
Rag Poets play many of those ‘heady’ Wellington hits from the 60’s & 70’s era, as well as new material they’ve written and a bunch of covers from the likes of John Prine, Boz Scaggs and Neil Young.
The band thrives on big vocal harmonies as they continue to maintain the unique sound they’ve developed over the years. Their audiences love the ‘timeless’ music they play and the stories they tell.
Chris Brown and George Barris
Chris Brown has a classical piano background and a love for the acoustic guitar. He started his career in music in the mid 60s playing at the Chez Paree and has a keen interest in folk, country and soft rock.
George Barris is an accomplished musician who has been in many of NZs top bands playing both guitar and bass.
Chris and George have played music together over three decades and enjoy the blend of their acoustic guitars.
Chris and George have performed at Mainly Acoustic several times over the years and look forward to bringing their selection of music back to you on Tuesday nite.

The Short Blacks
All started over a coffee in Cuba Mall.
Here we are years later and one is even shorter than before.
We'll bring you some old Celtic favourites, lies, yarns and tall stories.
By now you'd expect nothing less.

Mary Livingston & Robin Brew
Mary & Robin have been sporadically performing for 15-20 years, and following a lengthy hiatus are now seriously re committing to their 'musical mahi'!
Their repertoire is wide ranging and more related to passion for a piece than genre-bound.
Mary's guitar work is gently inspirational for Robin and they are both attracted to songs with rich harmonic potential...whether deep and meaningful, or feisty and frivolous.
