Don & The Divorcees
"Don and The Divorcees are Hollie Wright, Beans Wright and Don Mackay. Each writes in a slightly different style, but together they present a unified sound based on harmony singing and multiple stringed instruments.
Don Mackay writes songs about experience and love and fidelity and infidelity, and acceptance. Small country towns where the roadside motels have ears and the roads all have tales to tell. He writes about temptation. And yes, redemption, too. There are catchy tunes in a folk.country vein. And there is his rich baritone voice. You can't go wrong, really.
After arriving from the UK via Australia in early 2023 Beans Wright took the local singer-songwriter scene by storm. Bean’s songs combine insight and sensitivity with literacy and wit. They were a featured guest at the 2023 Wellington Folk Festival. Arguably the best lyricist working in New Zealand at the moment.
Holly Wright’s songs are more intense and personal reflections on life, and have a more contemporary feel. Holly's harmony singing is the glue that holds that whole thing together.
They are aiming to release an album early in 2025.
Studio 4
Studio 4 formed in high school, four boys bonding over their love for music. All sorts of music. They dabble in a variety of styles, from rock classics to jazz standards and are always looking to play new and exciting tunes. But no matter what they play, their main goal to put on their best show ever.
They blew us all away when they played at our end-of-year Open Mic. They had charm, they had chops and they had style. Now they're back and they'll have more time.
We can hardly wait.
